The works of Abby Leigh (American, b. 1948) are visibly and rigorously handmade and bears overt traces of her presence as artist and person. Reminiscent of Minimalist and Process works of the 1960s and 70s, this imperfect grid is a reworked rubbing that was taken from the caning of a chair that had particular personal relevance to the artist. Leigh’s work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Guggenheim Museum, New York; UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
